AGP not to issue whip, but will vote against govt
The Asom Gana Parishad, which has two MPs in Lok Sabha, will not issue any whip to members but has decided to vote against the UPA government during the trial of strength.
"We will not issue any whip. But we have already decided that our two MPs, Arun Sarma and Sarbananda Sonowal, will vote against the government when the confidence motion is moved," AGP President Brindaban Goswami said.
Goswami, who is here along with two party general secretaries, will have a meeting with the two MPs in the evening regarding the floor coordination with other opposition parties. "The AGP, TDP and others are working together. We want the anti-people UPA government to go. The Congress cannot do anything for the welfare of the country," he said.
Asked whether his party was in touch with Mizo National Front and Nagaland People's Front, which have one MP each, Goswami said they were trying to convince the two regional parties of the Northeast to vote against the UPA government. The AGP President, who is attending today's UNPA-Left-BSP lunch, hoped that a third political alternative of UPA and NDA would emerge in the country soon.
