Afzal will be hanged if BJP comes to power: Rajnath

GHAZIABAD: Alleging that the UPA's "appeasement" policy was responsible for the spurt in terrorism, BJP President Rajnath Singh said his party would ensure that Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru is hanged if it is voted to power in the next Lok Sabha elections.

"Afzal Guru will be hanged within a week if NDA returns to power," Rajnath said while addressing a party rally here yesterday.

Claiming that the NSG waiver came "at the cost of national sovereignty", Rajnath accused the Manmohan Singh of acting under the "guidence of the US".

Brushing aside media reports that he would contest from Ghaziabad, Rajnath said, "I shall not contest election from Ghaziabad constituency and all those candidates who are in queue to get the ticket need not be disappointed."
Meanwhile, activists of Yuva Gujjar Vikas Parishad (YGVP) protested with black flags during the BJP leader's visit.

They were demonstrating against the alleged atrocities on Gujjar community by the Rajasthan government.
About 100 activists of YGVP were also arrested while they were coming to Ghaziabad to stage protests during Rajnath's rally.

The protesters also threatened to boycott the party in the coming elections.
