BENGALURU: TDP president and Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday held successful talks with JDS national president HD Deve Gowda and Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy on pivoting non-BJP parties around the Congress.

“We need to save the nation, the Constitution, the democracy, and autonomous institutions,” Naidu told reporters after the meeting with the leaders of JDS. Naidu will meet DMK president MK Stalin in Chennai on Friday to enlist his party’s support. He said he has also been in touch with other leaders, including SP’s Akhilesh Yadav, BSP’s Mayawati and Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee to take his idea forward.

The Andhra CM accused the NDA regime at the Centre of unleashing the income-tax department and ED officials on leaders of opposition parties, and setting off indiscriminate raids on them in many states, including Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, UP, Bihar and Gujarat with the intention of harassing them.

Under the NDA rule, he said, farmers are in trouble and minorities are feeling insecure. “It is our responsibility to join together,” he said, stressing the need for opposition unity.
