NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday conducted searches at the residence of AGMUT cadre IAS officer Udit Prakash Rai, on Friday, in connection with arrest of Gopal Krishna Madhav, a Delhi government officer and officer on special duty (OSD) to Manish Sisodia, Deputy Chief Minister in a bribery case.

Madhav was arrested by the CBI on Thursday late night for allegedly receiving an illegal gratification of over Rs 2.2 lakhs in a matter related to GST, said sources. A private individual Dheeraj Gupta who was allegedly acting as middleman for Madhav, Goods and Services Tax Officer in Trade and Taxes Department of Delhi, was arrested by the agency on February 5.

Allegations against Gupta are that he was acting as a middleman on behalf of some GST Department officers including for the public servant for collecting illegal gratification from transporters for not charging Goods and Services Tax from them.

As per available information no involvement of Sisodia in the case has surfaced so far.

Sisodia demanded strict action against Madhav.

"I have come to know that the CBI has arrested a GST inspector while he was taking bribe. This officer was also posted in my office as OSD. The CBI should immediately get him punished severely. I myself have got many such corrupt officials arrested in the last five years," Sisodia wrote on Twitter.

Over the question of the timing of the arrest, which comes ahead of polling for assembly elections in Delhi, Sisodia said, "I have no issues with the timing of arrest, whoever takes bribe should be caught immediately. We have zero-tolerance for corruption."

He added "I got to know that an officer who is posted at GST and has been an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) with me for 5 years has been arrested for taking a bribe of Rs 2 lakh. What CBI did is right, strictest action should be taken to set an example."
