Guwahati: Tension continued in Kokrajhar and Chirang districts of Assam's Kokrajhar, a day after a person was killed and four others seriously injured after a mob attacked them on suspicion of cattle theft. On Tuesday, hundreds of people blocked the national highway at Karigaon, burning tyres, demanding the immediate arrest of the accused. Internet has been suspended in these two districts. In Kokrajhar, prohibitory orders have also been imposed under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023.

Rapid Action Force has been rushed to Kokrajhar to bring the situation under control. The Army conducted a flag march in Kokrajhar. A senior police officer said the victims were associated with a road construction project. Police said they have arrested over 27 people for their alleged involvement in the lynching.
