After Governor’s exit: Services of three staffs of Rajbhawan in Meghalaya terminated

GUWAHATI: Following resignation of the controversial Meghalaya governor, V Shanmuganathan, Rajbhawan has terminated the services of two PROs and one personal assistant attached to the former Governor.

An official source said the services of public relations officers, Chinmoyee Deka and Emdorini Thangkhiew and private secretary Saurav Pandey from Lucknow were terminated as their services were co-terminus with the Governor’s appointment.

Following allegations of molestation by a girl who appeared for an interview of PRO post of Rajbhawan and a written complaint lodged by the staffs of Raj Bhawan in Meghalaya to Prime minister Narendra Modi that Governor has turned the Raj Bhawan into a “young ladies club”, Shanmuganathan was asked to put papers on Thursday following protest in matrilineal Meghalaya.


Around 80 staff of Raj Bhavan dashed a letter to Prime minister and raised questions on some appointments made by the Governor like personal cook and personal assistant. Both were women. “Personal assistants relatives and friends, mostly young ladies lavishly used the facilities of Rajbhawan. Personal assistant accompanied him on tours.”

Some NGOs in Meghalaya are exploring options to file FIR against the former Governor.

Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit will discharge the functions of the Governor of Meghalaya in addition to his present charge as the Governor of Assam.
