After five years of lull period, Kolkata witnesses Maoist campaign in places across city
Earlier, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee too said that her government received some inputs regarding Maoists activities in the state.

KOLKATA: After almost five years of a lull period, the city again witnessed Maoist campaign launched in several places in the city, demanding the release of their jailed leaders. Maoists posters today appeared in crossings of Ultodanga and Narkeldanga in north Kolkata. The special branch of Kolkata police that removed the posters in the morning, registered a case and started investigation into the matter.
The posters read, “Abar Megh Asche Akashe” (the cloud again looms large). The posters were written using news paper pages that carried news of Maoists violence in different states. The statement further adds, “The red revolution would be taking place again and would bring independence in its real sense.”
A team of special branch officials visited the spot and interrogated some of the local people in the area. Significantly, these activities of Maoists generally happen in a city when the underground outfit wants to make their presence felt. A few hours ahead of Independence Day, finding Maoists posters in the city is a thing of concern for the Kolkata Police, that has already beefed up the security cover in and around Kolkata. Earlier, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee too said that her government received some inputs regarding Maoists activities in the state. The police in city and in district were alerted, she added.
