After controversy over nomination, 10 EDMC aldermen sworn in

10 aldermen today took the oath of office to join the East Delhi Municipal Corporation, about a month after they were named to the post.

NEW DELHI: Following a row which had cast a shadow over their recent nomination, 10 aldermen today took the oath of office to join the East Delhi Municipal Corporation, about a month after they were named to the post.

The EDMC Mayor administered the oath of office to Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) office secretary Pramod Kumar along with Kailash Jain, Parvez Choudhary, Iqbal Ahmed, Surendra Singh Panchal, Narendra Jain, Asha Balodhi, Vinod Choudhary, Neeraj Sharma and Santosh Sarin.

According to a DPCC statement, apart from the Mayor, Ram Narayan Dubey, the Leader of the Opposition in the House, Varyam Kaur, leader of MCD and all its top officials were present during the ceremony.

With BJP at present controlling the three municipal bodies in the city, there was a controversy over the nomination of the aldermen as the party refused to administer the oath of office to them, alleging that the nominations were made "with political considerations in mind".

The mayors of the three municipal corporations had last month refused to administer the oath of office to aldermen appointed by the Congress-led Delhi government alleging that the appointments had been done keeping in mind political considerations.
