Bhopal: After BJP paraded its MLAs before MP governor Lalji Tandon on March 16, it was Congress turn to do the same on Wednesday. Congress MLAs reached Raj Bhavan and submitted a letter demanding release of its MLAs ‘held captive’ in Bengaluru and release of other Congress leaders, including Digvijaya Singh, arrested by the Bengaluru police. In the evening, Congress workers protested in front of the BJP office too.

BJP leaders also wrote to the Chief Election Commissioner against Congress’ RS candidate Digvijaya Singh and nine MP ministers who accompanied him to Bengaluru. BJP accused Singh of trying to pressure 16 MLAs holed up in a resort in BJP-ruled Karnataka after quitting to vote in his favour in the RS election on March 26. BJP demanded appropriate action against Singh and others who were prevented by the Karnataka police from meeting the MLAs whose resignations have not been accepted by the Speaker, citing ‘security concerns’.

“They say they can’t run the assembly because of Covid-19. But their workers are coming in groups to protest and do whatever they want,” MP BJP chief VD Sharma said.

On his part, chief minister Kamal Nath approved the creation of Chachaurha, Maihar and Nagda districts, taking the total number of districts in the state to 55. The demand for making Maihar a district was made by BJP MLA Narayan Tripathy.
