After Badaun, CBI asked to probe Munde Case

NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will be focusing on Babu Ram, the uncle of one of the killed girls in Badaun, as the key person to decipher the mystery regarding the horrific case, a senior official said while confirming that the agency was taking over the probe from the UP police.

“We are ready to probe the Badaun case and have received the letter from the Uttar Pradesh government,” a top CBI official said on Tuesday, adding that the case would be speedily investigated as per the new law in force with respect to rape victims.

The CBI will hand over the probe to a special team in Delhi, and not its Lucknow unit in the state, to dismiss any allegations of bias, the official said.

In another development, the home ministry has recommended a CBI probe in the death of former Union minister Gopinath Munde following allegations of foul play in the road accident that led to Munde’s death.
