After almost a year, Arunachal Pradesh got full-fledged Governor

GUWAHATI: After almost one year, India’s frontier state of Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday got full-fledged governor. Brig (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd) was sworn-in as the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh.

The state did not had full-fledged governor since J.P Rajkhowa was sacked in September last year after his controversial role in imposition of Presidents rule in the state.

Following Rajkhowa’s exit, Governor of Meghalaya V Shanmuganathan was holding additional charge.

However under pressure from different quarters following allegations of molestation, Shanmuganathan relinquished his post. In January this year, Governor of Nagaland Padmanabha Balakrishna Acharya was appointed as the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh.

Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court Justice Ajit Singh administered the Oath of Office to Mishra. The swearing-in ceremony was followed by State Guard of Honour presented by Arunachal Pradesh Police at Raj Bhavan, Itanagar.

Prof Jagdish Mukhi has been appointed as the Governor of Assam in place of Banwarilal Purohit who has been sent to Tamil Nadu as its Governor. Ganga Prasad has been appointed as the Governor of Meghalaya.

Purohit was appointed as the Governor of Assam in August 2016. The swearing-in ceremony of the newly appointed Governor of Meghalaya, Ganga Prasad will be held on October 5.

Assam Pradesh congress committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora told ET, “The centre must have allowed the present governor of Assam to complete his term. Governors should not be transferred or shifted like a bureaucrat. There is recommendation of the Sarkaria Commission and government must follow the same.”
