Advocates to boycott court proceedings on quota issue

The Madras High Court Advocates Association on Friday decided to boycott court proceedings on Monday to protest the Supreme Court's stay of the 27 per cent quota for OBCs in elite educational institutions.

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court Advocates Association on Friday decided to boycott court proceedings on Monday to protest the Supreme Court's stay of the 27 per cent quota for OBCs in elite educational institutions.

A resolution adopted by the Association today said the advocates would boycott proceedings on Monday to condemn the Supreme Court's observation that reservations for OBCs in educational institutions amounted to vote bank politics.

"It is unfortunate that the Supreme Court has observed this as vote bank politics, even after both Houses of Parliament had passed a bill in this regard," the resolution said.

The Association urged other groups of advocates in Tamil Nadu to boycott court proceedings on Monday.
