Advani slams UPA for price rise, inflation
Bharatiya Janata Party leader LK Advani on Sunday lashed out at the Congress-led UPA government for rise in prices and inflation that has gripped the country.
"Family budgets have been badly affected and even the middle-class families are feeling it. First the UPA blamed the previous National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government and they realized that it (the charge) could not be sustained. During six years of our regime, inflation was under control and the economy was managed well. Then they shifted the responsibility to the state governments," said Advani while speaking to reporters here Sunday.
He said this peculiar situation has risen because of the opportunistic alliance between two major groups which have different ideologies.
"What has to be seen is that in the NDA-ruled states there have been no major problems like farmers' suicides," said Advani.
He said that the general election will be held in 2009.
On the potential of Rahul Gandhi, he declined to make any comment.
Asked if the NDA will raise the same objections it did last time, if Sonia Gandhi is projected as the future prime minister, he said: "First let them decide on that."
Asked about the Third Front, Advani said that it was meaningless and not a viable proposition. "I say this from the experience that we had during the VP Singh days," said Advani.
Earlier in the day, he handed over a copy of his autobiography "My Country My Life" to veteran Malayalam superstar Mammootty at Kochi.
