ADMK files contempt plea against TN CM
The AIADMK files the contempt petition alleging the virtual defiance of the Supreme Court order on state-wide bandh on October 1.
The major opposition political party of the state had moved the contempt petition against Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, Union Shipping and Surface Transport Minister T R Baalu and other top officials of the state in pursuance of the apex court directive.
The court taking a serious note of non-compliance of its order had asked the AIADMK to file a contempt petition to examine whether there was a breakdown of constitutional machinery warranting imposition of President’s rule in the state.
On the day of the bandh, a bench comprising Justice BN Agrawal and Justice P Sathasivam had threatened the state government for dismissal.
The AIADMK counsel alleged that there was a virtual bandh in the state despite court order against it.
“If there is no compliance with our order, it is complete breakdown of constitutional machinery. We will then have to direct the government to impose President’s rule” had said Justice Agrawal, the most senior most judge of the apex court after CJI.
