Adhokshjanand Devtirath is not recognised Puri Shankaracharya: Swami Nischalananda Saraswati

NEW DELHI: A day after a religious leader, Swami Adhokshjanand Devtirath announced to campaign against Narendra Modi in Varanasi, Swami Nischalananda Saraswati claimed that he is the recognised Jagadguru Shankaracharya of Govardhan Math in Puri and has not made any statement against any candidate.

"To gain politically, a person named Adhokshjanand, supported by some political parties, claiming himself to be Govardhan Math Puri Shankaracharya is campaigning in Uttar Pradesh for some political parties and has brought disgrace to the honour and dignity of the Puri peeth," a statement issued here said.

The statement said the President of India, the Election Commission as well as the Home Ministry have been informed to take note of the "impersonation".

Adhokshjanand yesterday said that he would go to Varanasi to ask religious leaders to oppose Modi, whom he held responsible for the 2002 riots in Gujarat.
