Additional rebate of Rs 6/quintal to mills if dues cleared by September 30: UP

LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh government today decided to provide an additional rebate of Rs 6 per quintal to the sugar mills on clearing cane dues to farmers latest by September 30.

"The cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister has made this decision today. It has been decided that sugar mills will be given an additional rebate of Rs 6 per quintal by the state government if they cleared the cane dues of farmers by September 30," state's Principal Secretary Sugar and Cane Pradeep Bhatnagar told reporters here.

He said cane dues of Rs 5,099 crore was pending on sugar mills and if all sugar mills make the payment the state exchequer would have load of Rs 380 crore in providing the above relief.

Till now only 12 sugar mills have cleared there dues, he added.

He said the state government had announced Rs 280 per quintal as state advised price on which payment of Rs 260 per quintal was to be made immediately while payment of Rs 20 was to be made at the end of the crushing season.

The state government have already provided a relief of Rs 2 per quintal relief in purchase tax, entry tax of sugar and a compensation of Rs 6.30 per quintal as cane society commission to the sugar mills. It amounts to Rs 770 crore and with the additional relief of Rs 380 crore the total amount would come to Rs 1,150 crore.
