Adding more beds, says government as positive cases cross 10000

The health ministry said that the Centre and state governments have been adding isolation beds and critical care units daily. According to ministry statistics on Tuesday evening, India had reported 10,815 Covid-19 cases, including 353 deaths.

New Delhi: The number of Covid-19 positive cases in India crossed 10,000 on Tuesday. The Centre reassured the people by saying that the healthcare capacity was being ramped up daily to remain ahead of the curve.

The health ministry said that the Centre and state governments have been adding isolation beds and critical care units daily. According to ministry statistics on Tuesday evening, India had reported 10,815 Covid-19 cases, including 353 deaths. The ministry reported the highest 24-hour spike on Monday with 1,211 cases. Monday also registered the highest 24-hour discharges after recovery with 179 people cured.

“At present there are 602 hospitals for Covid treatment.


There are 1.06 lakh beds and 12,024 ICU beds in these hospitals.

The Centre is continuously and rigorously working with states/UTs to strengthen the health infrastructure in the country,” joint secretary (health) Lav Agarwal said. The government said that the number of tests have been increasing daily.

“We have tested 2,31,902 samples so far. On Monday, 21,635 samples were tested,” said RR Gangakhedkar, head of department of epidemiology at Indian Council of Medical Research.
