Mahua Moitra controversy: Some groups and individuals working overtime to malign our image, Adani group's response
Following backlash over allegations of Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra, a spokesperson for the Adani Group on Monday reiterated its previous stance that "some groups and individuals have been working overtime to harm its name, goodwill and market standing".

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla making "cash for query" allegations against Moitra and demanded an inquiry committee against her. Dubey has sought her 'immediate suspension' from the House alleging that "bribes were exchanged between her and businessman Darshan Hiranandani to ask questions in Parliament in exchange for cash and gifts".

In his letter, Dubey has written that he is in receipt of a letter from Jai Anant Dehadrai, Advocate, in which he has shared "irrefutable evidence of bribes allegedly exchanged between Mohua Moitra and Darshan Hiranandani, a well-known business tycoon, to ask questions in Parliament in exchange for 'Cash' and 'Gifts'."

The letter says the questions were also often focused on the Adani Group, "another business conglomerate, Hiranandani Group was bidding for business against".

Some BJP politicians, including Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar took to X to point a question that was 'likely' asked by Moitra.

A spokesperson for Adani expressed displeasure at these developments and said that the lawyer’s complaint reveals that this arrangement to besmirch the reputation and interests of Gautam Adani has been in place since 2018.

Adani has endured a whirlwind 2023 which started with US-based short-seller Hindenburg Research's report alleging corporate misgovernance and other misdoings against the Indian conglomerate, charges which Adani has denied throughout. What followed was a stock rout and a subsequent expert panel being set up by the Supreme Court for markets regulator SEBI to examine the developments.

In his letter to the speaker, Dubey said 50 of 61 questions she asked in Lok Sabha till recently were focused on the Adani Group, the business conglomerate which the TMC MP has often accused of malpractices, more so after it was at the receiving end of a critical report of short-selling from Hindenburg.

Dubey urged Birla to constitute an "inquiry committee" into the charges against her.
