Actor S Devan decided to join the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party after recently leaving the BJP in Kerala, reports PTI.

Devan, the former Kerala state vice-president of the BJP, had recently announced his resignation from the post and his decision to leave the party at a public event.

Devan said to reporters that TVK representatives met him two days ago and invited him to join the party.

“After that, there was a video conference meeting and I decided to accept the invitation. There will be a meeting with TVK leaders in Tamil Nadu on September 10, after which a formal announcement will be made,” the actor told PTI.

The thespian said he was offered the post of state president of the CM Vijay-led party and that the upcoming meetings would discuss the matter.

He said during his student days, he actively participated in the Congress and its student wing, Kerala Students Union (KSU).

Devan alleges that he formed his own party in 2004 after Congress leaders failed to live up to the expectations of the people.

He also alleged that the BJP had failed to bring about change in the existing political system in Keralam.

“They are a big zero when it comes to changing the existing political system here. People want a change,” he said.

The actor’s political career began by him forming the Kerala People’s Party, which was later renamed the Nava Kerala People’s Party.

He merged his party with the BJP in 2021 after a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and was subsequently appointed the party’s state vice-president.

Devan, after quitting the BJP, said he was not getting enough “space” to function within the party.
