Activists from 10 states demand proper implementation of the Forest Rights Act at Jantar Mantar

The group of activists and villagers under the aeigs of 'Campaign for Survival and Dignity' assembled at Jantar Mantar and shouted slogans.

NEW DELHI: A large number of people from as many as 10 states today staged a protest here demanding proper implementation of the Forest Rights Act.

"We are protesting against the land grab by government for industrial projects. People from across the country have come, including Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand," said Shankar, an activist.

The group of activists and villagers under the aeigs of ' Campaign for Survival and Dignity' assembled at Jantar Mantar this morning and shouted slogans against the authorities.

They demanded that the rights of forest dwellers must be recognised and the government should stop taking land for industries.

The protesters demanded that the gram sabha's powers to manage, control and protect forests and other natural resources must be respected and displacement be halted.
