The Delhi government has said it has taken action against over 700 auto richshaw drivers for not adhering to norms.

NEW DELHI: The Delhi government has said it has taken action against over 700 auto richshaw drivers for not adhering to norms.

The Transport department conducted a special drive on July 11 and took action against the erring drivers. 22 enforcement teams were pressed into action with special focus on seven spots in the city, an official said.

Total 366 auto rickshaws were impounded for not following the norms while 372 auto rickshaws were challaned for various irregularities.

The teams inspected if auto rickshaws were following the set conditions, whether they were using meter, had valid fitness certificate, permit and license.

The teams also took notice of complaints of misbehaviour, overcharging among others, he said.

Among the areas covered by the teams were New Delhi Railway Station, Anand Vihar Railway Station, Old Delhi Railway Station, Hazrat Nizammudin Railway Station, Kashmere Gate, Anand Vihar Bus Depot, Sarai Kale Khan.
