Act on Mudgal report and disqualify CSK from IPL, SC observes

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday observed that action should be taken on the Mudgal Committee's probe report on the IPL spot-fixing scam and team Chennai Super Kings should be 'terminated without further enquiry' from the IPL tournament.

"In the face of so many irregularities, isn't it easier to disqualify? SC asked, after the Mudgal probe report had indicted Gurunath Meiyappan, son-in-law of suspended BCCI president N Srinivasan, for betting.

The apex court also asked for details of the shareholding of suspended BCCI chief N Srinivasan and the company India Cements — the owners of CSK. Srinivasan is the managing director of India Cements.

The court observed that there was a 'conflict of interests' for Srinivasan as CSK owner and as BCCI chief.

The Supreme Court said those under investigation must be kept away from cricket body BCCI's elections, suggesting Srinivasan could be barred from the polls. Srinivasan is seeking a clean chit from the Supreme Court to contest the BCCI elections and win another term as president.
