'Acquisitions land CPM in trouble'

The CPM on Friday acknowledged that apprehensions about land acquisition led to loss of support for the party in rural West Bengal.

NEW DELHI: The CPM on Friday acknowledged that apprehensions about land acquisition led to loss of support for the party in rural West Bengal. The CPM central committee, which took stock of the sliding in the partys popularity ratings, concluded that the state government should draw proper lessons from the verdict. The apprehensions about land acquisition which led to loss of support in some areas must be removed. The plans for industrialisation must take this into account, the CC said.

Disregarding public anger and frustration, the CPM has so far been backing the state governments industrial policy. The protests against the policy paradigm of the chief minister was seen through a partisan prism where those opposing the policies were projected as an anti-development mob.

The central committee meeting was also of the view that the party will have to acquire coalition manners. The CPMs approach to-wards its allies is seen as a cause for disunity in the Left Front. The disunity in the Left Front should be overcome and Left unity strengthened, the central committee said.
