BJP’s Maharashtra president Chandrakant Patil said on Saturday that the leadership’s decision to let Shiv Sena’s Eknath Shinde be the chief minister was accepted with a heavy heart by the state unit.

His comment on the party’s decision that was called a master stroke by many, seems to have embarrassed the BJP.

In a bid to control the damage, the BJP pulled off the video clip of Patil from its social media pages.

Addressing a press conference, BJP leader Ashish Shelar tried to do damage control, saying: “These comments were not the view of Patil or the BJP. He (Patil) was just referring to the situation at what party cadres felt at that time, they were shocked at that time (at the decision to make Shinde the CM). He was just analysing the situation then,” said Shelar.
