ACB stuns Arvind Kejriwal government with scam chargesheet

NEW DELHI: In a development unlikely to have been anticipated by the Delhi government, which has just set up a panel to probe the Rs 100-crore transport scam, the anti-corruption branch has completed its inquiry and will be submitting a chargesheet in two-three days.

Highly placed officials said around nine people, including two former IAS officers, are going to be chargesheeted.

The LG has sanctioned filing of the 1000-page chargesheet which was ready last week and is being vetted by the prosecution. The ACB may rope in a special prosecutor, the source added. More than 25 witnesses have been listed.

The contract for operation and maintenance of I&C lanes (inspection and certification) at Burari transport authority had been given to a company, ESP India Pvt Ltd, in 2002.

The ACB had in 2012 arrested the India-based director of ESP USA, Nitin Manawat, and three others and charged them with floating a fake firm, ESP India. The others arrested included transport officials M A Usmani, V K Gupta and Ashok Gupta. It could not be confirmed if they figure in the current chargesheet as well.
