NEW DELHI: The J&K Anti-Corruption Bureau has sought the “original file” relating to the appointment of a close relative of former J&K Bank chief Parvez Ahmed Nengroo by private insurer IFFCO-TOKIO General Insurance Co.

The ACB is investigating the former J&K Bank chief for alleged corruption and abuse of official position. It had on Tuesday booked Nengroo on charges of violation of norms in an insurance deal with IFFCO-TOKIO, which had hired Nengroo’s close relative, Asif Manzoor Beigh, as a chief manager. The agency wrote to the insurance company on July 23, seeking the original file of Beigh.

In its letter, the ACB said the file relating to Beigh’s appointment is “urgently required” and that a scan or photocopy of the file will not suffice since it is not admissible in court. The letter said the file is required for “further investigation”.

Last week, a local court in Kashmir had empowered and authorised the ACB to search the office premises of IFFCO-TOKIO in Chinar Complex Residency Road, Srinagar. The court directed the ACB to immediately bring to the notice of the court anything found incriminating.

It is alleged that Beigh got a plum post in the insurance company in lieu of the J&K Bank entering into a bancassurance deal with the insurer. The agency has alleged that it was done in connivance with the MD of IFFCO-TOKIO.
