ABVP demands quota for SC, ST students in Aligarh Muslim University
ALIGARH: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad ( ABVP) has urged the Union HRD Ministry to take steps for revoking the provisions that allow Aligarh Muslim University deny quota admission to SC/ST students.

In a memorandum to HRD Minister Smriti Irani yesterday, ABVP's state organisation secretary Deepak Rishi alleged that AMU was "misusing" certain provisions of minority institution status for not granting SC/ST students quotas in admission.

This should end immediately, he said.

The memorandum also states that compulsory study of elementary Urdu in certain classes should be "discontinued".

"Appropriate disciplinary action should be initiated against those AMU students who are issuing statements critical of the central government," it reads.

The ABVP's demands comes at a time when the minority institution status of AMU is being debated.
