AASU to convene peoples convention to formulate strategy for CAA agitation

Guwahati: All Assam Students Union (Aasu) which is spearheading the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protest has announced that it will intensify the anti-CAA stir after the end of the examination of class 10 and 12.

AASU had state executive and delegation-level meetings on February 27 and February 28 in Guwahati.

AASU chief advisers Samujjal Bhattacharya on Friday said, “To bring the anti CAA organisations together under one platform, we will form a common platform.”


AASU has resolved to call people convention by middle of March to discuss on how to carry forward anti CAA protest.

AASU general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi said, “We have been saying that protest against CAA will be of long duration till the same is revoked. We will seek strategy from the people during the convention on how to go about the protest programme.”

He added, “We along with other organisations will ensure that protest against CAA is taken to villages, hill districts and Barak valley.”

The Act, which aims to make minority communities such as Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan eligible to apply for Indian citizenship is being challenged in the Supreme Court.
