Aarushi case: Court's decision on CBI closure report tomorrow

GHAZIABAD: A Special Court here will tomorrow decide the fate of the closure report filed by the CBI on the sensational Aarushi-Hemraj double murder case.

After taking cognizance of the report submitted by the CBI, the Court had on January three directed the Investigating Officer to bring case diary on January seven for examination.

Special Judge Preeti Singh while hearing the CBI plea to close the investigation in the over two-and-a-half year old case, also dismissed an application by Aarushi's parents for not closing the double murder case, saying it was "not maintainable" at this stage.

14-year-old Aarushi and her family's domestic help Hemraj were killed on the night of May 15, 2008 in Noida near here.

The judge had read the application of Aarushi's dentist parents -- Rajesh and Nupur -- opposing the CBI's move for closing the case but rejected the same saying that their plea was not maintainable at this stage and asked them to appear before the court on the day of hearing.

The CBI had on December 29 filed a report to end the probe clearing the names of three servants -- Raj Kumar, Krishna and Vijay Mandal -- in the case.

But the needle of suspicion pointed towards Arushi's father -- Rajesh -- whom the agency named as a suspect who could not be chargesheeted because of "insufficient evidence".

Friends and family members of Aarushi today held a candlelight prayer in Delhi to demand justice for the slain teenager. They also asked authorities to further investigate into the case and catch the culprits.
