AAP’s Tughlaqabad MLA booked for assaulting man

NEW DELHI: An FIR was registered against AAP MLA from Tughlaqabad, Sahiram Pehelwan, for allegedly assaulting a resident on Monday.

The complainant, Yogesh Bidhuri, said that Pehelwan and two of his associates had thrashed him and threatened to kill him following an argument at Chhuriya Mohalla in Tekhand village.

Bidhuri was allegedly attacked with sticks and a sharp object. He sustained injuries and was taken to AIIMS Trauma Centre by police. The MLA has been booked under sections 324 ( causing hurt with dangerous weapons), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC. In his complaint, Bidhuri said that around 12.30am on September 19, Pehelwan reached his colony drunk and threatened labourers engaged in road construction work. "He asked them to stop their work," said Yogesh.

Bidhuri said that one of the workers sought his intervention. "By the time, I reached the scene, the MLA had left. I called him on his mobile phone and asked him why he stopped the construction work. He threatened to teach me a lesson," he said.

Bidhuri said that he was on his way to a medical store around 10.30am in Govindpuri when Pehelwan's associate Lalit stopped him outside the MLA office and punched him on his face. Pehelwan and Lalit's brother Subhash also came out and attacked Bidhuri with a stick and a sword, said police.

Bidhuri alleged that his nephew was also beaten when he tried intervening. "I managed to flee and inform the police," said Bidhuri.
