AAP's Rajinder Gupta becomes second richest member of Rajya Sabha

AAP's elected MP to the Rajya Sabha -- industrialist Rajinder Gupta with assets of more than ₹5,000 crore -- would be the second-richest member of the House, and joins the list of billionaires entering Parliament as the party's nominee. BRS MP Bandi Partha Saradhi is the richest RS MP. With Gupta's entry into Rajya Sabha, AAP's three MPs out of ten in the Upper House, come from business background. The other two are Lovely Professional University founder Ashok Kumar Mittal and entrepreneur Vikramjit Singh Sahney.

Sahney is also among the top-10 richest MPs in Rajya Sabha. Similarly, from Delhi, AAP had nominated billionaire Sushil Gupta and chartered accountant ND Gupta. While Sushil Gupta completed his term, ND Gupta continues to remain an MP.

As per an analysis by ADR in 2024, the average property of AAP MPs was among the highest among the national political parties, more than both the Congress and BJP. The presence of Gupta and other AAP MPs, who come from business backgrounds, in the Rajya Sabha indicate the AAP's changing political stance. However, party insiders assert that it is being done to broaden the party base.
