AAP's Alka Lamba caught in a controversy; CCTV footage allegedly shows her vandalising shop
NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Alka Lamba on Monday found herself in the middle of a controversy, when a CCTV footage showed her vandalizing a sweet shop in Kashmere Gate. Incidentally, AAP has claimed that a man in the shop hurled a stone at her.

The Chandni Chowk MLA, who suffered, head injuries after allegedly being pelted with stones yesterday, has alleged that she was attacked in the presence of policemen, but no action was taken by them. Lamba said she was attacked during an anti-drugs campaign in north Delhi's Kashmere Gate area.

Soon after Lamba's allegations, a CCTV footage emerged, which shows Lamba reaching straight for the shop counter and throwing away some items on the counter, after which her supporters also vandalised the shop.

Lamba denied vandalizing the sweet shop, saying the video which showed her throwing things was taken after she was attacked during an anti-drug drive.

"As far as this footage is concerned, I have seen it. The shop is of BJP MLA OP Sharma and the attack took place outside his shop and the attacker was also caught from this shop," Lamba said.

"This video is after the attack took place. I had just entered the shop with one of AAP volunteers post the attack and asked that the attacker be brought out, we haven't vandalized the shop," she added.

Meanwhile, the Delhi's ruling party said it suspected involvement of BJP MLA OP Sharma in the attack, a charge dismissed by the BJP.

"Why will a man working at a shop attack her? Police should probe role of the BJP MLA as the shop is owned by him. There have been many instances where political leaders' names are linked with drugs business. Drug peddling could not thrive without the involvement of local leaders and police," national spokesman of AAP, Sanjay Singh, said.

Meanwhile, Delhi unit of BJP has condemned the attack and rejected the allegation that Sharma was behind it.

"Strict action must be initiated against Alka Lamba as CCTV footage has made everything clear. Kejriwal ji can make many statements to hide his sins, but truth has come out, there was no stone pelting, no attack (on Lamba)," said Manoj Tiwari of BJP.

Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi said, "We have got to know about CCTV footage, We'll examine and then will proceed." Delhi Police told Times Now that it has received several complaints from the shopkeepers, about threat and harassment from Alka Lamba.

Meanwhile, Police have arrested the man identified as Jitin. "We have received a complaint from MLA following which an FIR was registered," a senior police officer said yesterday.
