AAP won't join opposition's alliance against BJP for 2019 polls: Arvind Kejriwal

Giving a jolt to opposition's efforts to stitch a federal alliance against BJP, Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced that it will not join the proposed opposition alliance against the BJP for the 2019 general elections.

"Our party will not be a part of any alliance in 2019," AAP chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal told reporters in Rohtak yesterday.

The party will contest the Haryana state Assembly polls and the general elections from all seats next year.


Yesterday, hitting out at Congress for not seeking AAP's support for the elections of Deputy Chairperson post in Rajya Sabha, the party had abstained from the election in the upper house.

AAP leader and Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh had said that if a leader of the Congress party could not ask for votes for its own candidate, how would the party lead the opposition.

However, blaming the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP government at the Centre for the pending development works in Delhi, Kejriwal alleged that hurdles were created by the Centre to stop the people's welfare work done by AAP government in Delhi.

Giving example of "revolutionary work done in the education and health sectors in Delhi" Kejriwal said Haryana's Manohar Lal Khattar government should learn from the Delhi government about how development is done.
