NEW DELHI: Two Aam Aadmi Party volunteers were today allegedly assaulted by unidentified assailants in Bijwasan area of south Delhi when they had gone there to carry out membership drive, police said.

The AAP volunteers - Shekhar and Ghulab - alleged that they had been trashed by BJP workers. Police have, however, registered a case against unknown persons.

"The incident took place around 10 am. The complainants have told us that they were beaten up with sticks by around a dozen people during membership drive in Bijwasan area," a police officer said.

The injured were rushed to the Safdurjung Hospital from where they have been discharged.

Associates of the two volunteers claimed that the attackers had been saying that the area was a BJP bastion and that they should keep away from it. They allegedly also threatened them with dire consequences if they continued the membership drive.
