Sources said Panag, famous for her roles in films like 'Dor' and 'Manorama Six Feet Under', met AAP leaders on Tuesday and an announcement is likely in a day or two. Her father, Lt Gen H S Panag, had also joined the party recently. She is likely to face former Congress minister Pavan Kumar Bansal if he is given a chance to recontest.
The actor, who was born in Chandigarh and studied in Patiala's Government College of Girls, is pursuing a Master's degree from Punjab University. She has in recent years been involved in social causes including women and child rights. Panag also runs an NGO which works on promoting citizen-government partnership for gender equality, addiction, awareness, education, employment and disaster management.
Savita's candidature had led to considerable heartburn, forcing her to give up her ticket. AAP sources said they hoped that Panag, with the support of her father, would be able to tide over opposition within the party.
