NEW DELHI: BJP might be poaching Kejriwal's former colleagues Kiran Bedi and Shazia Ilmi to blunt AAP onslaught in Delhi but if financial donations are anything to go by, the support for activist-turned-politician's party is only increasing. The day Bedi joined BJP, AAP saw a sudden spurt in financial support and received a record Rs 64 lakh in donations (mostly online support).

Their website shows close to Rs 1 crore in collections in just two days when their average daily collection in two weeks of January was just under Rs 19 lakh. The last two days has seen a five time increase in their collections.

"The party has gained whenever there has seen something of big proportion happening, be it Modi's rally this month, when we had record collections or when Arvind went to Jail. This is unprecedented and I have no doubt that people must have taken note of BJP importing people who were once part of our movement," said Somnath Bharti, AAP leader.

AAP's Arvind Jha who tracks social media said "there were tweets from people suggesting that they were annoyed with the betrayal and said they were donating only because of that."
