NEW DELHI: The ruling AAP today declined to comment on the apex court order putting a stay on a Delhi government circular on filing of defamation cases against media organisations for any news item that causes damage to its reputation.

The court stayed the circular on filing of defamation cases against media organisations for any news that causes damage to the reputation of the Delhi government or to that of the Chief Minister and other ministers. It also asked Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to explain why it was issued.

Earlier, Supreme Court had stayed proceedings in trial courts in a few criminal defamation cases against Kejriwal while deciding to hear his plea challenging "constitutional validity" of the penal provisions relating to defamation.
