AAP knows fighting polls alone and winning them too: Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann

AAP leader and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday said his party knows fighting elections alone and winning them too, in remarks that came after his cabinet minister opposed any electoral tie-up with the Congress for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Mann was speaking to reporters after launching a flight from Ludhiana to Hindon.

Replying to a question on alliance with the Congress for the Lok Sabha polls, Mann said his party has been taking decisions in the interest of people after getting a big mandate in Punjab.

He said the Aam Aadmi Party fought alone and won 92 seats in Punjab. It won power in Delhi for a third time and fought alone in Gujarat and secured 13 percent votes, he further added.


The AAP is also the youngest party to have become the national party, he said.

"We know fighting elections alone and winning as well. We know forming governments and running them also," he added.

Earlier in the day, AAP leader and cabinet minister Anmol Gagan Mann said her party will not tie-up with the Congress in Punjab for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls and fight on all 13 parliamentary seats in the state.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress are both part of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), a coalition of opposition parties to take on the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the general elections.

At the national level, many political parties have joined hands against the BJP to save democracy, Gagan Mann said but made it clear that there will be no alliance with the Congress in Punjab.

It is the "direction" of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann the AAP will not have any alliance with the Congress in the state, she told reporters, a day after the Punjab Congress opposed any alliance with the AAP.

On September 1, the INDIA bloc in its Mumbai meeting resolved to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha polls together "as far as possible", asserting seat-sharing arrangements in states will be concluded at the earliest in a "collaborative spirit of give-and-take".

The coalition's leaders have also set up a 14-member coordination committee that will act as the highest decision-making body of the alliance and initiate work on seat sharing. They also exuded confidence that the new front would easily defeat the BJP.
