Aam Aadmi Party MP Raghav Chadha on Wednesday confirmed that his party would go into the upcoming Delhi elections without an alliance with the Congress.

"AAP is fully capable of defeating BJP on its own strength in Delhi. I don't think that Aam Aadmi Party needs any support or a partner in Delhi," said Chadha.

Further, he said that the there are two categories of assembly elections in India, the first being those where regional parties could defeat BJP, like the DMK in Tamil Nadu, the TMC in West Bengal and the AAP in Delhi.

"I am trying to divide all the elections of this country into two parts. The first category of elections is where regional parties are capable of defeating BJP on their own strength like DMK in Tamil Nadu, TMC in West Bengal or AAP in Delhi. This is the first category of elections," Chadha said.

The second category is the states where Congress can not defeat the BJP on its own but can win if it gets the support of the INDIA bloc parties.

"There is a second category of elections where Congress party becomes weak in front of BJP in a direct fight and is unable to defeat BJP. In this second category, if Congress gets the support of the constituent parties of INDIA alliance, then it can easily defeat BJP but if it moves alone, then it may not be able to defeat BJP. As we have seen in the elections of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh," Chadha added.

Further he said that the AAP had won the Delhi assembly elections in 2015 and 2020 with overwhelming majority.

"In 2015 and 2020, Arvind Kejriwal and AAP formed the government with the biggest mandate in the history of independent India," Chadha said.

Delhi elections

Delhi elections are scheduled to be held in February. It has not been a smooth sailing for the government as AAP chief Kejriwal resigned from the post of chief minister of the national capital in September. He made the announcement a few days after getting out of the Tihar jail.
