AAP Govt says Rajghat was inefficient; NTPC can convert Badarpur to gas
NEW DELHI: The Delhi government says state-run thermal power generator NTPC should switch its coal-fired plant at Badarpur to a cleaner fuel like gas if it wishes to keep the plant operational.

“Rajghat power plant was an inefficient plant and Delhi distribution companies agree to it. Badarpur plant belongs to NTPC and, if they want, they can convert it into gas-fired plant,” a state government official said.

An NTPC executive, however, said the company has not received any communication from the Delhi government on the Badarpur plant.

The Delhi government, which has already decided to shut the Rajghat plant, wants NTPC to either switch the Badarpur plant to a cleaner fuel or shut it to check rising pollution in the city. This decision is based on a recommendation of the National Green Tribunal.
