AAP government seeks key details from Delhi Police like transfer policy

In a letter to Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi, the Chief Minister's Office also asked him to provide details of officers serving in various posts despite completing their tenure.
The government said it wanted to install CCTV cameras in the police stations as it regularly receives large number of public complaints about non-registration of FIRs and expressed readiness to bear the cost of the project.
Delhi Police functions under direct administrative control of the Home Ministry.
In the letter, the government said it sought the details in accordance with the notification issued by the President on September 24, 1998 which states that the Lt Governor of Delhi has to exercise his powers with respect to police in consultation with the Chief Minister.
The AAP government also said that sought the states of implementation of the 2006 Supreme Court judgment on police reforms and all states were required to implement it.
"Government has sought the copy of transfer and posting policy of Delhi Police. Besides, it has asked the commissioner to forward a list of officers serving in their present posts despite having completed their tenures according to the policy," said a senior official.
The official said Bassi has been asked to send government list of all SHOs and inspectors in city, including their dates of posting in present positions.
"Government has sought such information in accordance with the notification issued by President on April 24, 1998 which states that the L-G has to exercise his powers with respect to Police in consultation with the CM.
"Therefore, the Chief Minister is required to brief the LG on such matters on a regular basis and the government requires this information for this purpose," the official said.
In the letter, the government said it was committed to install CCTV cameras across the national capital and requested police to provide a list of spots considered vulnerable for women so that CCTV cameras can be installation there.
"Delhi Police is also requested to send a list of dark spots, which could be potential places of crime against women, to ensure immediate illumination. It is desired that CCTV cameras be installed in all police stations and Delhi government is ready to bear the cost," Chief Minister office said in a statement.
