AAP claims ‘fresh evidence’ against RSS in saffron terror, NIA diluted cases linked with Malegaon
NEW DELHI: Two ‘fresh evidences’ put out by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Ashish Khetan to nail alleged role in saffron terror of senior RSS leader Indresh Kumar, who was questioned by the CBI in 2010, have become the latest reason for sparring between BJP-ruled Centre and the Aam Aadmi Party. The evidences include a purported confidential note concerning Kumar’s alleged role in saffron terror, apparently prepared by IPS officer NR Wasan when he was the former additional director general of National Investigations Agency (NIA), and Kumar’s purported call data records which show that he was in touch with saffron terror accused Devendra Gupta and Sunil Joshi at the time of the blasts.

Khetan has used these over the past two days to claim that, despite existence of strong evidence against ‘top RSS leaders’ in saffron terror, the NIA had ‘diluted cases’ linked with Mecca Masjid, Malegaon and other blasts cases. Reacting sharply, minister of state for home Kiren Rijiju took to social media and rebutted these claims. Speaking specifically of the Mecca masjid blasts case, Rijiju said Wasan as CBI director in 2009 had never dealt with these cases. Thereby, denied the possibility of Wasan’s writing the confidential note on Kumar. “The officer returned to his state cadre in 2009, whereas the particular case referred by AAP was transferred to NIA only in April 2011.

Other cases, which have been mentioned in the statement, were also transferred to NIA from CBI at the time he was not working with the CBI. How should Kejriwal & Co compensate to the officer, police department and the nation?” asked Rijiju. Hitting out at the MoS (Home), Khetan on Wednesday claimed that Rijiju was misleading the country as Wasan had written the note when he was with NIA in 2012.

“NIA had irrefutable evidence against senior RSS leader Indresh Kumar and it wanted to take him into custody for interrogation. One of the clinching piece of evidence was log of telephone calls between Indresh Kumar and the key accused in the blast Sunil Joshi, who has since been killed. Records show that Indresh was in touch with Sunil Joshi. He spoke to Joshi before and after the blast. Call records indicate that Sunil Joshi was talking to Indresh and passing on instructions to other accused and bomb planters,” said the AAP leader.
