AAP and Swati Maliwal lock horns over viral video as allegations fly

The discord between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Swati Maliwal, a Rajya Sabha MP, has intensified following the circulation of a video showing Maliwal engaged in a heated argument with a staff member at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's residence. The viral video has become a focal point of contention between the parties.


The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has also leveled serious allegations against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), claiming that the assault case involving Swati Maliwal is part of a larger conspiracy to implicate Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The AAP has dismissed Maliwal's accusations against Kejriwal's aide as unfounded.


AAP's Allegations At a press conference, senior AAP leader Atishi stated, "Today a video has surfaced that has exposed the lie of Maliwal. In her FIR, she has said she was brutally assaulted and she was in pain, and buttons of her shirt were torn. A video that has surfaced shows an entirely different reality." Atishi claimed that the video showed Maliwal comfortably sitting in the drawing room, threatening the security staff, and with no signs of torn clothes.


Escalation of Conflict
AAP leader Dilip Pandey took a dig at Maliwal, suggesting that her lies and arrogance would be exposed by the truth. He reiterated the party's support for Kejriwal, asserting that he would emerge victorious in this battle. This statement came after the AAP reposted a video titled 'Swati Maliwal Ka Sach' (Swati Maliwal’s Truth), originally shared by a news channel.

Aam Aadmi Party leader Dilip Pandey took a jibe at Maliwal in an X post in Hindi, saying, "A faint light of truth can demolish the deepest darkness of Swati's lies and arrogance. First decide who is loyal. Time will decide who is the traitor. Arvind Kejriwal Zindabad. He will fight and win."

In the video, Swati Maliwal can be heard saying, “I will make sure you lose your job if you touch me."

Maliwal's Response
In response to the video, Maliwal accused an unidentified individual of being a 'political hitman' and alleged that he was trying to manipulate the situation to protect himself. She claimed that the individual was attempting to twist the narrative by sharing tweets and videos out of context. Maliwal's reaction underscores the deepening divide between her and the AAP.

AAP's Position
Earlier, AAP MP Sanjay Singh had stated that Arvind Kejriwal had taken note of the incident and had directed strict action. Singh reiterated the party's support for Maliwal. This marks a significant shift in the relationship between Maliwal and the AAP, as it is the first instance where the party has openly opposed her.
