AAEU protest for not renewing the contract of 5000 employees
The Airport Authorities Employees Union (AAEU) will hold a two-day token demonstration in New Delhi to protest non-renewal of contracts of 5,000 employees.
Members from 124 airports and 12 parliamentarians will demonstrate before Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan, the corporate head office of the Airports Authority of India on July 28 and 29, AAEU General Secretary Dipankar Ghosh said today.
The Airports Authority of India has decided not to renew the contract of 5,000 employees expiring in 2009, while it was ready to give placement to 160 executives, Ghosh said.
"We have told them that if any of these executives are recruited at the NSC Bose International Airport we will not allow him to work here," Ghosh said.
Memoranda has been given to the Airport Director V K Monga and the Regional Personal Manager (GM Personal) Balbir Singh expressing dissatisfaction over the AAI's recruitment policy, Ghosh said.
He claimed that these employees had been "targeted" by the AAI because they were with the AAEU, which was against 'privatisation' of airports.
He demanded that the services of 5,000 employees be made permanent.
