The Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra government has won a majority by getting 164 votes in favour during the trust vote in the Maharashtra Assembly today, crossing the majority mark of 144 votes. While the Opposition camp got 99.

The Opposition got 107 votes in the election for Speaker yesterday. However, Santosh Bangar switched to the Shinde camp, while some of the Congress and Sena MLAs did not show up for the vote.

Yesterday, BJP's Rahul Narwekar was elected as the Speaker. This was a major development in light of the Sena's ongoing judicial appeal to disqualify 16 rebel MLAs, including the new Chief Minister.

Narwekar last night restored Mr Shinde as the Shiv Sena's legislative party leader, and also recognised the appointment of Mr Gogawale as the chief whip of the Sena.

Meanwhile, on Sunday evening, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, along with his faction of Shiv Sena MLAs, held a meeting with Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, BJP MLAs, and other party leaders at a hotel in Mumbai to chalk out a strategy for the floor test.
