A 'snowfall' everyone wants to avoid in Bengaluru

BENGALURU: Commuters passing through the Varthur Bridge in east Bengaluru on Tuesday evening witnessed yet another "snowfall". However, it was not a moment of joy for them.

While two-wheeler riders changed gears to steer away from it, those in cars raised windowpanes for safety. Reason: What commuters witnessed was toxic foam emerging from the nearby Varthur Lake, one of the most polluted water bodies in the city, giving a snowfall-like feel.

With pollution levels rising due to the inflow of sewage and harmful effluents, froth in the lake has gone up adding to the worries of residents nearby.

Vehicle users say they experience itching and skin infections whenever they come in contact with the foam from the lake.
