CHENNAI: The BJP has roped in the grandnephew of former president A P J Abdul Kalam. BJP president Amit Shah welcomed Sheikh Salim into the party at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi and the party posted a photograph of this on its official website.

Salim, a small-time businessman, came into prominence in July this year during Kalam's burial service, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the former president's family members to offer his condolences, party sources said. Tamil Nadu BJP vice-president M Chakravarthy hailed Salim's entry into the party, saying "This development will enhance the image of the organisation."
