A day after JNU violence, Delhi Police forms fact-finding committee to carry out a detailed inquiry

Randhawa stated that the Delhi Police is committed to solving the case regarding JNU violence on a timely basis

Delhi Police briefs media over violence in JNU
A day after Jawaharlal Nehru University witnessed unprecedented violence, the Delhi Police today formed a fact-finding committee under the authority of the Joint Commissioner of Police to investigate the incident in the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus.

MS Randhawa, The Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Delhi Police, said on Monday that the committee will find facts pertaining to the sequence of events and avoid any delay in investigation and inquiry. He also added that the committee has already found some vital clues, and will be trying to solve the case soon.

Randhawa stated that the Delhi Police is committed to solving the case regarding JNU violence on a timely basis. "An FIR has been lodged in the matter. The investigation is underway," he said, adding that a total of 34 persons were injured in the clashes and all 34 have been discharged from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)' Trauma Centre.



The Congress also appointed a four-member fact-finding committee to carry out a detailed inquiry into the violence at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU)."The Congress president has appointed a fact-finding committee on the JNU incident. They have been asked to conduct a detailed inquiry into the incident of violence in JNU campus and (will) submit the report to the party chief within a week," a statement from AICC general secretary K C Venugopal said.

On Sunday, the varsity saw masked men armed with sticks and rods attacking students and teachers and damaged property on the campus.At least 28 people, including JNU Students’ Union president Aishe Ghosh, were injured as chaos reigned on the campus for nearly two hours.

The HRD Ministry officials met officials from the JNU administration and took stock of the situation on the campus following Sunday’s violence, even as Vice-Chancellor M. Jagadesh Kumar skipped the meeting.
