Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla urged Rahul Gandhi to maintain decorum in the House, highlighting Rule 349's requirement for proper conduct. Complaints suggest Gandhi's public affection towards his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra caused discomfort. Birla ...

While Speaker Birla's office did not elaborate on his statement, some MPs later suggested that Gandhi's public displays of affection towards his sister, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, had sparked complaints. According to these MPs, his tendency to openly show affection toward Priyanka in the House had been a source of discomfort, and such behaviour had been observed again during the proceedings earlier this week.
After the Zero Hour submissions, Birla took the floor, referencing Rule 349, which stipulates that members must uphold the decorum and sanctity of the House. "Several incidents have come to my notice where members' conduct has not been in keeping with the high standards expected," Birla said. He further pointed out that, historically, various family members-fathers, daughters, mothers, husbands-had served in the House, underlining the need for responsible behaviour.
