A Bangladeshi convict to be repatriated following Anup Chetia's extradition

KOLKATA: With Anup Chetia being handed over to India, the repatriation process for Bangladeshi convict Nur Hossain has also been initiated. At the Home Secretary level talks between Bangladesh and India held in Dhaka on September 4, 2014, a decision was taken to swap Hossain with Chetia. Then union Home Secretary Anil Goswami was in the meeting. Government of Bangladesh agreed to hand over Chetia to India after India government assured them to repatriate Nur Hossain.

Hossain, a Bangladeshi convict accused in seven murder cases and an Awami League councillor, is now lodged in Dum Dum correctional home in West Bengal. Hossain along with two other Bangladeshi nationals were arrested from a housing complex near Dum Dum airport. The Kolkata Police arrested Hossain under foreigner's act and he was convicted too. However, it was later revealed that Hossain is a wanted criminal in Bangladesh accused in seven murder cases including one for killing his party colleague and a councillor.

Hossain belongs to Narayanganj in Bangladesh. A senior official of Dum Dum correctional home told ET, "The repatriation process has already been initiated. The date of repatriation is however yet to be fixed."
